My most memorable moving day was the day I moved from Missoula, Montana to Salt Lake City, Utah to start my first real job as a geologist fresh out of grad school. Loaded the plants and the cat in the eco-car Chevy Spectrum (it had no AC) and made the drive. Stopped at a rest area in Idaho to strech our legs. I put Flower the cat on a long leash and let her wander around. She wandered into a lava tube and wouldn't come out! Finally, after 25 minutes in the tube, I started to tug on the leash, gently at first but more firmly as the minutes ticked by. I didn't realize that if I pulled hard enough, the break-away safety collar I had on her would, you guessed it, break away! Oh no! I thought I would lose her forever. Eventually, after much pleading and then firm commanding, she came out on her own. She was never allowed to get out of the car on trips after that. As if moving to a new city to start your first job were not adventure enough!

I remember when my boys--- one by one went off to kindergarten-- and I went out to lunch to celebrate.
But I know sending them off to college is bittersweet-- because you are sad to see them go but thankful for the peace and quiet :-)

Ruth,
I know what you mean about getting back in the studio. It's awkward at first for me. My goal is to be back to painting after an upcoming Labor Day trip to Vancouver to take care of two grandbabies.
Good Luck with your packing!
